与珠宝 - 多伦多

珠宝,

在形式与造型上与后现代主义建筑流露出共鸣

In this project, I explored jewelry -- its material, shape, design -- and combined these aspects into the architecture model. I started by building a dataset of three hundred jewelry designs ranging from old antique to postmodern styles.

After the vectors are generated, I noticed that even though the jewelries are reshaped, one can still recognize the different materials of the reshaped jewelries. This finding leads my interest in their shape to their material. And what drives me to the next level was the question: where are the materials from? The answer is rock. Therefore, I choose a canyon, the place of rocks and stones, as the body of my architecture.

The canyon itself, along with all the generated vectors, are a group of organic architecture. I selected eight vectors and merged them into the canyon. The main structure at the bottom of the canyon is a combination of the selected vectors. Its dome is constructed by numbers of vine-shaped parts, while being covered by a layer of opal gem. Around it were glass walkways. Finally, I reoriented and then placed other vectors on the canyon wall, as if they were windows and chambers of the canyon.
